Description

The Heart Nebula (IC1805), capture in H-Alpha(3nm). This is my first attempt at trying to capture this faint and elusive nebula in the Constellation Cassiopeia. Even using my smallest refractor, at 80mm f/6, I couldn't get the whole nebula in a single frame. Using a focal reducer/flattner would have certainly helped. This shot is composed of three separate captures, and doesn't represent a lot of narrowband data by NB standards. Using my Orion ED80T on an Atlas AZ/EQ-G mount, with an Orion 50mm/Starshoot camera for guiding. Capturing camera was a Atik 460EX mono, using an Astrodon 3nm Ha filter. Did a total of 15x15min(3hrs45min) captures divided between the three combined frames. Post processing was done using Pixinsight, ImagesPlus and Photoshop CS6. Seeing and transparency were poor, as I had to deal with the moon, which was 12 days old and 83% illuminated. This reflects in the lack of significant contrast in my shot. I will try to continue to build on this data in the future, under better sky conditions.
